HipHopGame hook up with Crooked I
April 11, 2008 | 108 Comments

This is your first week not having to do a freestyle for your Hip-Hop Weekly series. Does it feel weird?
Yeah, it is. It’s kind of weird. I became really attached to the series. It was a way for me to express myself weekly with the things that go on in the world. Now I just have to sit back and look at all this crazy stuff going on and I can’t even talk about it. It is a weird feeling. But the weirdest part about it is that you would probably think that I would be chilling right now, but I’m on the way to finish a mixtape and I got different features that I gotta finish up for underground artists. It’s business as usual, but it’s weird not to do the Weekly’s.

All good things come to an end (Ballerstatus)
March 24, 2008 | 2 Comments

Hip-Hop Weekly. That term has been etched into every hip-hop fan’s brain for the past 51 weeks, as Long Beach rapper Crooked I fed everyone free downloadable freestyles over a beat of his choice consistently over that long time period. Having amassed a bevy of new fans and proved to others — including other rappers and critics — that he’s a lyrical beast, the weekly series, unfortunately, is finally coming to an end this week.
With the historic moment taking place this week, BallerStatus.com spoke with Crooked I in length about the Hip-Hop Weekly series to find out how it started, how’s it helped him thus far, some of the most momerable things moments since the beginning, and what’s in store for the highly anticipated final freestyle for Week 52, which hits the net this Wednesday or Thursday.

Crooked I: Backspin (March ‘08)
March 22, 2008 | 31 Comments

For years, Crooked I has been seen as the biggest hope for the West coast. Still no album has been released, but the Long Beach rapper remains confident. After signing a deal with Virgin Records in the nineties, and another one with Death Row where he’s stand for 4 years without dropping and album, it looked like fans were no longer expecting anything from Crooked I. But Crooked I managed to ignite a new buzz with his “Hip-Hop Weekly” freestyle series: a brand new track he’s putting for free download on the internet each week. Now Vice President of Treacherous Records and front man of his C.O.B. (Circle Of Bosses) movement, Crooked I is gearing up for the release of his album B.O.S.S. (Beginning Of Something Serious).
You’ve already been signed to the following labels: Virgin Records, Death Row and now Treacherous Records. What is the most important thing you learned from all these experiences?
Thanks to Dimos of the D.O.C. for the translation.
